The Buddha sits in the Dharmacakra Mudrā or "Teaching". The Dharmacakra Mudrā in Sanskrit means "Wheel of Dharma". This mudra symbolizes one of the most important moments in the life of the Buddha, the opportunity, as he preached to his companions the first sermon in the deer park at Sarnath after his enlightenment. So it refers to the setting in motion of the wheel of the Dharma teaching. The hand position is reminiscent of the energy of the teaching and intellectual debate or argument. Mostly it feels like the transmission of a particular teaching without words, and the circle of your thumb and index finger made creates a constant flow of energy and information.
